Daniela worked in the Molecular Ecology of Mycorrhiza group in January 2003 for a student project. Her subject was the characterization of sooty moulds by microscopy and DNA sequencing. These fungi cover living plant leaves with a black layer and are quite common. Below is an example of a Scanning Electron Microscopy image of a layer of sooty moulds.
